Welcome!

I would like to thank you for stopping by and taking a glance at my blog/website about full figured women in the Media.  Let's face it,  there is a widespread favoritism toward women who look a certain way and wear a certain size. I don't like to generalize, but I'm calling it like I see it and when I look at Victoria Secret models I don't exactly see lingerie in a size 12.  I wonder why!

My intention is not to put all the blame on media for the discrimination of thicker/full figured/big girls in the media, however, I want to show how these women are portrayed through media.

The site features several topics pertaining to celebrities who have been scrutinized for being thick. These women have been under the spotlight for their struggles with weight and  low self esteem.

As a woman who views media as an important outlet for the younger generations, I believe that it's important to analyze and understand where the pressure is coming from and why we continue to frown upon our thicker girls. I take this discrimination very seriously because I have plenty of friends who are size 12 and size 14 and I am the first person to advocate confidence and love for oneself. Sometimes, I've found myself questioning whether I should lose a few pounds or go down to a smaller size in order to fit the media mole of the "perfect" woman; and I've always been confident about my clothing size. Media is extremely influential and we need to learn to accept all shapes and sizes.

As a Hispanic woman who lives in America- where the emphasize on size penetrates through the media and our daily life- I've had to maintain my self confidence by assuring myself that I was born to look like me and weight loss in not necessary nor an option. In Dominican Republic, many women are naturally curvy and its common for them to wear a size 6 or size 8.  So, I don't view myself as someone who is full figured or petite or thicker, I see myself as an average women with curves. And there's nothing wrong with that!

So this is my homage to those big girls/thick/ full figured women who walk the walk and talk the talk. And to those women in the media who are exceptionally proud of representing the big girl community. This for all the Monique's out there who love themselves and love to be talked about!
